Whatever Became of the Early Jewish Christians?

Most Christians know that Jesus and His first followers were all Jewish. The first evangelistic outreach was among Jews, and most of the early believers, as well as most of the writers of the New Testament, were Jews. Yet it appears that within a century of Jesus' death and resurrection, the majority of believers were Gentiles. How did this happen?
