At the Tomb

During his crucifixion, the sun hid its face from the shameful scene. At his resurrection, the earth shook within its frame, as though convulsed by a power even greater than the force that had created all things. While the earth quaked, so did the guards. These Roman troops were trained to fight and kill. They were combat veterans in the army that had brought the civilized world under the rule of Caesar. Now, the sight of an angel and the absence of the Lord filled them with terror.

Teaching the Resurrection

Jesus' resurrection is the pivotal event of the Christian faith. In spite of its importance, however, resurrection was not an easy concept for first-century believers to understand. Resurrection in the ancient world took many different forms.
