On the Seashore

The events in this week's lesson took place some time after the Resurrection Sunday appearances in Jerusalem. Jesus and most of his disciples were from Galilee. They had come to Jerusalem for the Passover. After the crucifixion and resurrection, the disciples traveled the 60 or 70 miles north back to their homes in Galilee. There, while fishing in the Sea of Galilee, they encountered the resurrected Jesus.

The Sea of Galilee

No body of water has captivated the imagination like the Sea of Galilee. In spring, the lake is a turquoise gem. In summer, it so enlivens the parched landscape that it is often called the "Eye of Galilee." Yet most importantly, it was near the Sea of Galilee that Jesus began his ministry. Learn more about this fascinating lake in this week's article.
